If you’re anything like me, you love a fresh bouquet to brighten up your home! As we transition from spring into summer, there’s no better way to celebrate the season than with a simple, cheerful flower arrangement – and you don’t need to be a florist to do it. I found all these blooms at Trader Joe’s (because let’s be real, they’ve got the best and most affordable flower section ever). The colors are so darn pretty!
Whether you want to spruce up your entryway, dining table, or kitchen counter, this easy tutorial will help bring that sunshine-y feel into your home.
At Trader Joe’s, I grabbed a mix of seasonal blooms.
DESIGN TIP: Stick to a color palette. I went with pink and orange hues for that happy, bright colored Summer vibe!
Here are some general floral tools I like to have at hand, I’m always picking up flowers, so it’s a must for me!
Once home, strip off the leaves from the bottom half of each stem so they don’t sit in water. Give the stems a little diagonal trim. This helps them drink better!
Grab your desired vase, and fill with water. Begin building your base by placing your greenery in the vase first. Eucalyptus adds height and structure. It also smells amazing! Place each time one at a time, and I always start by adding one on the right, left, front and middle ( the middle one will stay in place as the other stems get snuggled in, so don’t worry if it doesn’t stay in the center at first. Do the same with your second greenery stems choice.
DESIGN TIP: I like for my stems to have an organic feel to them, so I always cut the stems down to where they somewhat stick out out of the vase but not SO low or SO high. I like my stems to sit about 4-5 inches off the edge of the vase. Some can be shorter and some can be higher, that is what gives that organic look and movement. You don’t want your flowers all the same height, going the same direction, we’re not growing a Chia pet. LOL.
Next, place the largest or most eye-catching flowers ( like peonies & ranunculus ) in the same way that the greenery went in but sorta of stagger them so they compliment whoever is next to them. This draws the eye in and gives your arrangement some wow! You can see how I did this below!
Add in the smaller flowers like carnations or hypericum berry around the focal blooms. You can also add a second layer of greenery to help fill out any empty space. Keep it loose, not stiff – we’re going for effortless summer charm, not perfection!
Place your finished arrangement in your living room or I love keeping mine on a console table or even dining room table.
Fresh flowers have a way of making home feel extra special – especially in the summer. With just a few Trader Joe’s blooms, you can add warmth, charm, and joy to any corner of your home. It can also be a thoughtful gift to give to a loved one!
