Florida Backyard Patio Ideas for Summer

If you’re in Florida like me, you know backyard life is a little extra – extra hot, extra humid, and extra rain-filled in the summer! But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a stylish and cozy patio setup to enjoy those sunny breaks between the showers. I’m sharing 4 Florida-friendly patio ideas that will have your outdoor space feeling like a relaxing escape (even if it’s 90° with 100% humidity!). Plus, I’m chatting about our new rattan patio dining set that we scored from Lowe’s – and let me tell you, it’s good.

I’m pretty obsessed with our new round outdoor dining table, chairs and umbrella we found to match for all of our Summer hosting we plan to have this year!

1. Weather-Ready Patio Furniture

Let’s be honest, Florida weather can be wild, so choosing furniture that can stand the heat and rain is key. We found this gorgeous round dining table from Lowe’s for under $500 shop it here. It looks high-end, but didn’t break the bank, and was so easy to put together. We paired it with these beautiful stackable chairs – perfect for hosting friends or stacking away when a storm rolls in.

2. Shade with Style

A little shade goes a long way when it’s blazing outside. I love adding an umbrella not just for the sun protection, but for style too! We chose this chic black market umbrella, and it really pulled our patio together. Bonus: it has a tilt feature for when the sun just won’t quit.

3. Florida-Friendly Plants

Bring in some greenery! For a patio that can handle Florida’s heat and humidity, go for potted plants like:

  • Crotons (bold and colorful!)
  • Snake Plants (low maintenance and super chic)
  • Ferns (love the humidity!)
  • Bougainvillea (if you’ve got space for something that climbs and blooms)
These plants thrive in our weather and add a lush, tropical vibe to your space.

4. Keep It Light and Airy

Think about light-colored outdoor rugs and cushions that won’t soak up too much heat. I like to stick with neutral tones – beige, sand, soft whites – that reflect light and keep things looking fresh even on the hottest days. Plus, they go perfectly with rattan and natural textures. I went with this stain resistant and easy to clean outdoor rug!

So, even if we’re dodging rainstorms and sweating it out most days, your Florida backyard can still be a dreamy place to hang out. I’m loving our new outdoor space and can’t wait to spend more summer nights out here.
