Fall is here (well, at least in spirit, it doesn’t quite feel like fall yet here in Florida!), but that doesn’t mean we can’t start transitioning our homes into the season. For me, autumn decor is all about simplicity, earthy tones, and layering textures without going overboard on the bright oranges or fake maple leaves.
I’ve always believed that you don’t need a million pumpkins to create a cozy vibe. Instead, think soft neutrals, natural elements, and little touches that bring warmth to your dining room table. Whether you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner or just want to make your dining space feel festive for the season, here are some of my favorite autumn table decor ideas & questions I get asked a lot.

Amber Glass Finds

The key is layering. Start with a neutral table runner or linen base, then add natural accents like wood or rattan chargers, ceramic or stone looking plates, and soft linen napkins. Keep your color palette muted, like beige, soft grays, or sage green. Then, layer in subtle fall touches like a few neutral pumpkins (in muted tones), candle holders, and maybe a sprig of eucalyptus. It feels warm and seasonal without being overwhelming.

Wooden Bowl Trays

Mini Pumpkins
Less is more! I love a simple centerpiece made from a cluster of candle holders at different heights, paired with a few mini pumpkins or a bowl with some Spanish moss and small pumpkins. You could also do a small floral arrangement in earthy tones. The goal is to keep it low so guests can actually see each other across the table, beautiful but practical.

Neutral Runners

Candles. Always candles. The soft glow instantly makes a table feel cozy and inviting. Add in some natural elements (pumpkins, pinecones, or greenery), and you’ve got that effortless autumn tablescape vibe. Festive doesn’t have to mean cluttered, it’s all about creating an atmosphere that feels special.

Neutral Table Top Finds

For a neutral, earthy look, I stick to:
These tones work beautifully together and keep your table decor elevated, while still embracing the season.
Honestly? Whenever you feel like it! I personally start as early as August because it helps me transition from summer into fall slowly. I’ll add in neutral pumpkins, candle holders, and soft textures in late summer, and then layer in more cozy decor as we get closer to Thanksgiving.
Especially here in Florida, where it’s still warm and sunny, bright orange pumpkins don’t always feel right. I lean toward softer accents, white and sage pumpkins, natural woods, and creamy neutral textiles. Simplicity is always best, and you don’t have to go crazy to create a beautiful autumn table that feels seasonal and sophisticated.
I hope this gave you some easy ideas for creating a soft, beautiful autumn tablescape that feels festive without all the fuss.
